The requirements for maintaining ISO 14001 certification and accreditation
ISO 14001 is a widely used international standard that provides requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). An EMS is a set of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its negative impacts on the environment and continuously improve its environmental performance. To be certified to ISO 14001 , an organization must develop and implement an EMS in accordance with the requirements of the standard. The EMS must be appropriate to the organization’s environmental policy, objectives, and significant environmental aspects. The ISO 14001 standard specifies an EMS structure and requirements, but does not provide prescriptive implementation guidance.
